In March 2024, I shared a small behind-the-scenes announcement with our consultants: we had rolled out a beta version of Auggie, an AI-powered app that helps us find the right consultant for a client’s need in seconds.
At the time, it felt like a clever internal tool. Looking back, it was the first step toward something much bigger.
What Auggie Does
Auggie is a prototype built by Augment consultant Alek. It uses AI to search our consultant platform the way a person would describe a need, in plain English. For example:
“I need a part-time business analyst with experience testing and developing credit limit increase programs.”
Auggie matches that request against the full profile of every consultant on the Augment platform. It then:
- Rank-orders the best-fitting consultants
- Summarizes each consultant’s background
- Explains why each person may be a fit for that specific request
We built it first for Augment’s management team, so that we could respond to client requests faster and more consistently as the platform grew. From the start, the goal was to eventually put the same capability in our clients’ hands, so they could find the right resource without the back-and-forth. As I joked when we launched it: AI is going to take away my job! Thanks a lot, Alek.
From Prototype to Platform
Auggie proved the concept, but it was always a prototype, and it won’t be rolled out more broadly. Instead, it shaped the design of something permanent.
Augment Analytics is now developing its permanent application, a broader system built on what we learned from Auggie. At its heart is “Ask Auggie,” the embedded search tool that carries Auggie’s plain-English matching forward. The application began rolling out to our consultants in September 2026, and we expect to roll it out to Augment’s clients by the end of the year.
Why It Matters
Our differentiator has always been people who understand the business problem, not just the technical one. Tools like Ask Auggie don’t replace that judgment. They help us put the right people in front of clients faster, and they give our consultants a clearer view of where their experience fits best.
We are just getting started.
